Kittens & Breeding

These cats first came to attention not through breeders, but through researchers and travelers who recognized their uniqueness and harmony with their environment. Over centuries, they adapted to mountain life with silent resilience: muscular yet slender, strong but never coarse, elegant and haunting in their expression. In local folklore, they were thought to guard the thresholds between the seen and unseen—symbols of balance, guardians of silence.
Special Characteristics Temperament. The Transylvanian is a naturally gentle and nonaggressive cat. Even the foundation cats that were rescued feral cats could be handled easily and they were/are very trusting. Subsequent generations, where Transylvanian were bred to Transylvanian, they have continued with the gentle, kind temperaments.
Pattern: Carpati (roan effect). Kittens are born very lightly coloured; the pattern develops gradually over the course of the first year. The Carpati pattern is dominant, thought to be heat sensitive.
Colour variations:– Black Carpati and Blue Carpati.
