24 August 2026: an application was submitted to The International Cat Association (TICA) for the Transylvanian to enter the TICA recognition programme as a Transfer New Breed for Registration Only.
The relevant TICA committees have acknowledged receipt and the application is under consideration. Submission and receipt do not constitute TICA recognition. The application expressly does not seek Preliminary New Breed or Championship status at this stage.
Who is involved
- Applicant: Beverly Elian
- Proposed Breed Council Chair: Alexandru Elian
- TICA contact: Kurt Vlach
What Registration Only would mean
If approved, the first stage would allow eligible Transylvanians to be registered with TICA. It would not make the breed eligible for Championship competition.
The expected recognition pathway
The ordinary progression is Registration Only, Preliminary New Breed, Advanced New Breed and then Championship. The complete process is expected to take approximately four years, depending on compliance with TICA rules, the development and geographic breadth of the registered population, show participation and the approvals required at each stage.
This record will be updated when TICA issues a formal decision.
